This Sunday’s Day of Reconciliation will be celebrated in style in Cape Town. Two separate free concerts, will be held in the city at parks and organised by the city of Cape Town.
The concert at the De Waal Park in the city Gardens will be hosted by executive mayor Patricia de Lille and feature acts like Jimmy Dludlu and Saudiq Khan, while former Idols winner Karin Kortje and The Black Ties will perform at Maynardville.
De Lille said the concerts aim at encouraging and celebrating reconciliation and national unity through music.
“They promise to be diverse, exciting and entertaining, featuring big names in the entertainment industry,” she said.
The De Waal Park concert starts at 4pm and ends at 6.30pm while the concert in Maynardville Park kicks off at 12 noon and ends at 6pm.
No alcohol is allowed at either event.
“These concerts aim to encourage communities to reclaim open spaces in a positive way. Initiatives such as these help us build an inclusive city by bringing together Capetonians from different backgrounds for a fun-filled celebration of our diversity,” De Lille said.
