A shack allegedly used by teenagers for all-night drugs and booze parties have residents up in arms.
The community of the Leratong Park informal settlement near Galeshewe say they have had enough of the “hooliganism”.
Maria Oliphant who is a neighbour, complained to a ward councillor and a municipal committee of the persistent racket that came from the shack at night as young boys and girls indulged in booze and drug parties all night long.
Upon investigation, councillor Dennis Pienaar and some of the community members found pipes, dagga, liquor and boxes of condoms in the shack.
Parents complained that their daughters were always sleeping with boys in the shack.
Oliphant said the noise from the shack kept her awake at night.
“I am tired now, I could not sleep the whole night and these boys and girls rap all night long and I also hear nasty sounds as well,” she said.
Pienaar said he had informed the police and the municipality about the situation.
“They were supposed to come and witness the action as well.
“Really, the situation is getting out of hand.
“We want to take this shanty down, because it is in actual fact illegal, it is not in line with other shacks,” he said.
A resident said he was cautioned by his neighbours that his 16-year-old daughter spent nights in the shack.
“I came this morning to look for her. She was here and she also smelt of liquor and dagga,” he said.
“We tried so many times to speak to her, me and her mother, but she does not listen.”
The boys and girls alleged to be using the shack denied the allegations levelled against them.
Police said they would issue a statement in due course.
