Handicapped basketball players participated in the exciting Wheels of Steel Basketball tournament recently at the University Free State QwaQwa campus.
Four teams from Thekolohelong Welfare Centre were selected to participate in a one-day tournament that was held at UFS sporting grounds. The tournament was coupled with other forms of entertainment like poetry and theatre which kept people entertained.
According to Maluti-A-Phofung municipal spokesperson Kedibone Sentle, the tournament was sponsored by Old Mutual, Standard Bank, Maluti-A-Phofung municipality, Debonairs Pizza, BiBi Cash• Carry, LD Sets and SeSwagga Sounds.
“The event is aimed at embracing local talent, promoting unity among the youth, and creating a platform for developing physically challenged sportsmen and women from Phuthaditjhaba,” said Hloni Twala, one of the event organisers.
The winning teams saw themselves “wheeling” away with trophies sponsored by Old Mutual. There was even a trophy for the player of the tournament, awarded to “Skeelo” from the New York team. – 701391.
