From Wednesday 02 May 2012, South Africans’ are expected to suffer another blow with petrol hike that will see motorist coughing up to R12.22 a litre for petrol.
The New Age took to the streets to find out how exactly will they be affected by another petrol hike on Wednesday.
Faeez Hasser who normally spends R2000 per month on petrol for her Honda hatch-back will now have to increase her fuel budget by R700.
“I am looking at R2700 per month. It’s more like paying more for less” she said.
Mr. Peter Ntamu says; “I drive with my wife and we go to different work places. Before petrol there are factors like parking fees and traffic fines. I have to adjust my monthly petrol budget to R2500 per month as compared to the current R1700pm.
“Gautrain is not a good alternative because it comes with extra tail of costs.”
Mia McDonald said she will have to increase her petrol budget from R1500-R2500pm, "and this is my daily travel to work" she added
Motorists have also taken to Twitter to vent their frustrations, below is what they had to say;
@mamelasifiso7: I no longer eat out at the restaurant and go there for coffee.
@Endleleni: The first big increase in petrol hit the taxi sector hard but the additional increase will certainly have negative bearing on business.
@2BMaqaks: It’s not about what's fair but, their operating costs are going up as well.

The price of diesel will ascend to R11.03 a litre.
