A policeman was wounded during a shootout with a gang who blew up two ATMs in Rustenburg on Sunday morning, police said.
Using commercial explosives, the "heavily armed" group blew up the two machines, next to the Caltex petrol station on the corner of Klopper and Kremetart streets, around 2.30am, Brigadier Thulane Ngubane said in a statement.
A shootout ensued with the police, during which an officer was wounded in the leg. The gang fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a silver BMW and a white Honda. No arrests had been made.
On Tuesday five men blew up an ATM at a Sasol petrol station on the corner of Thabo Mbeki and Boven streets shortly after midnight. The gang also got away with money.-SAPA
