Another top cop has been arrested on charges of fraud.
The arrest on Monday of Maj-Gen Thembi Hadebe, deputy provincial police commissioner of human resource management, comes against the back drop of the recent grilling by Parliament's portfolio committee on police of acting national police commissioner Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi over the trustworthiness of police leadership.
Hadebe, who appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on Monday, allegedly defrauded the state by claiming for accommodation, a subsistence allowance and travel expenses for a private journey.
She was not asked to plead and was granted R1000 bail. Hadebe will next appear in court on July 20.
Provincial police spokesperson Col Leonard Hlathi said: "It is true that the member was arrested on charges of fraud and investigations are continuing."
