A man believed to be former SA and Namibian cricketer Louis Vorster was allegedly shot dead in Muldersdrift on Tuesday night.
The 46 year old man thought to be Voster, was allegedly leaving a gas station when a gold Volkswagen with two men inside blocked his way, said lt-Col Tshisikhawe Ndou.
One of the men walked up to him and fired a shot, while the other grabbed a bag from the passenger seat and they fled.
"He was declared dead at the scene," said Ndou.
A case has been opened but lt-Col Ndou could not confirm if the deceased was in fact Louis Vorster.
Sports 24 on Tuesday, reported that news of Vorster's death had surfaced on Twitter with fans and former team mates of Vorster were passing Condolences on the social networking site.
Among the tweets was Proteas all rounder Albie Morkel who said: "Tonight I'm crying like a baby! Lost a great friend! Rip Louis Vorster..#anothercrimevictiminSA!!"
While swimmer Ryk Neethling said: "A great man's life was violently ended tonight. R.I.P Louis Vorster."
Antonio Palladino who said he was a former teammate of Vorster sent out a message of support to the former cricketer's family.
Antonio Palladino said: "Shocked to hear of the murder of Louis Vorster. Was a teammate of mine in Namibia & coached his son. Thoughts go out to his family."
