Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has condemned Numsa's unjustified and selective call for the nationalisation of Ilanga newspaper.
The party said that this would contravention of the constitution, which protects private enterprise.
“The Ilanga newspaper with its strong growth in readership and advertising is a robust success story in the media environment which has seen newspaper circulations plummet”, it said in a statement.
The party added that for its part in the ownership of the Ilanga newspaper has never interfered in the management or editorial matters pertaining to the newspaper.
“It will therefore not start intervening now, except for a resolute defence of the private enterprise as a driving force for the betterment of the lives of all South Africans, especially those whose economic opportunities were curtailed by discrimination under apartheid”, added the party.
