The police have been called upon to increase resources and policing personnel to the community of Hazyview near White River to protect residents whose lives are under threat from thugs.
DA provincial leader Anthony Benadie has urged provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Thulani Ntobela to act after a Hazyview resident, David Foxon, 43, was shot dead during an armed robbery in his home on Tuesday night.
"The DA is deeply saddened by the murder of Dave Foxon, a well known and much loved member of the Hazyview community, at his home. This senseless attack and murder is yet another in a series of armed robberies and murders in the area and the community lives in a constant state of fear," said Benadie.
The DA now reiterates its call on the provincial commissioner of police to step up the police's efforts in the Hazyview area and sufficiently increase manpower, resources and constant visible policing to turn the tide against crime in the area.
Benadie further urged the provincial police management to get more support in the form of manpower reinforcement from the police national office.
Provincial police spokesperson Col Leonard Hlathi confirmed Foxon's death and a suspect's arrest. Foxon was fatally shot at his house in Hazyview during a robbery.
