After 13 years as a couple, four of which have been in marriage, Godfrey and Kedibone Nzimande are well on course to emulating the inspirational relationship of the SA junior-lightweight’s grandparents.

The Nzimandes derive inspiration from Godfrey’s grandparents, who spent more than 50 years in a happy marriage before his grandfather passed away two years ago.

Having been in a relationship for almost a decade before tying the knot, Kedibone recounts exactly where and how they met, including the date.

“He approached me in 1999 at his cousin’s graduation party in Namakgale (in Phalaborwa). It was on October 4 and later that same year we started dating,” says Kedibone, who had known Godfrey since their high school days.

She was at that point not aware that the man who was to later be her hubby laced gloves in his spare time.

“He was a boxer but I was not aware of this at that time. He had not turned professional yet.”

Kedibone’s description of Godfrey falls short of installing him as God’s biggest gift to her life.

“He is a great man and a good husband. He listens to me and does all that I expect from him. He respects me and I respect him too,” says Kedi, who earns her wages as a quality controller at a Jozi-based company and is also studying at Unisa.

They duo got married in May 2008 and are living together in Johannesburg in what Kedibone says has been a great journey.

The proverbial cherries on top were the births of their two daughters – Nomthandazo, 5, and one-year-old Othandekile.

Despite a busy schedule, Nzimande says he tries to spend as much time with his wife and kids.

“It is hard to maintain the balance. But you have to make time for your family.

The little time I can spare I make sure that I spend it with them,” says “The Punisher”.

He adds that he has always eyed Kedibone from a young age.

“When you are young you always see someone beautiful and develop interest. You wish that one day you’ll be in a relationship with her.

“But up until that day at the party, I couldn’t gather enough courage to approach her.”

Now that he has ultimately hit the target and made Kedibone his wife, Godfrey is a completely content man.

“So far it’s been so good. She is everything I ever wanted in a woman. She looks after me and takes good care of me. Having her in my life gives me the courage to do more.

“She’s such a big blessing to me and I can safely say I’m the luckiest man in the world.” – 701134
