Putco will rebuild part of the house one of its buses crashed into in Soweto, killing two people, the transport department said on Wednesday.

The undertaking was made to Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele, who said the bus company should also institute an internal investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

He said the Road Accident Fund would cover the burial costs of the couple killed, who were named by The Sowetan as Mike Motswiri, 44, and his girlfriend Mathabiso Kamadi, 33.

Ndebele and Putco management were to meet the victims' relatives later on Wednesday. The two were killed around 6am on Tuesday morning when a bus crashed into the bedroom of their house in Dobsonville.

The driver apparently lost control of the bus and hit a car before crashing into the home. Thirty-six people were injured, four of them seriously. They were taken to various hospitals in the area.

Putco spokesman Raphiri Matsaneng said some of the injured were released from hospital during the day, but the bus driver was one of those who remained under medical supervision.  -Sapa
