Pupils from a primary school in an area that is usually associated with social ills delighted their community when they participated in local athletics wearing Proudly Manenberg T-shirts.
Mario Wanza from Proudly Manenberg said they were proud to sponsor the children who took part in school athletics.
This week 89 pupils from the 12 primary schools in Manenberg participated in the Metro Central athletics event at Vygieskraal Stadium.
“Instead of running in individual school colours the 89 pupils turned out proudly in Manenberg colours, which were sponsored by Proudly Manenberg,” said Wanza.
“The primary schools came together under the Manenberg Primary Schools Sports Union umbrella to unite as a community and will be building school sports in the community.
“We also wanted to give children something when they succeed. This is another step forward in building the new Manenberg we want to see.
“It is our aim to rebuild a culture our children can be proud of and with which they can identify. “Viva to a new Manenberg,” said Wanza.
